Who is Mathew Katz?
Mathew Katz is a Canadian journalist living in New York City. He currently is completing an Masters of Science in Journalism at the Columbia University Graduate School of Journalism, focusing on magazine writing, as well as radio news and documentary. He is also a fellow on the Scripps Howard Program in Religion, Journalism, and Spiritual Life, and will be joining 15 other fellows on a reporting trip to Ireland in March. His areas of interest include food and nutrition politics, poverty, religion, and international reporting.
Mathew was the Comment Editor at the Varsity, the University of Toronto’s largest student newspaper, where he also wrote features. During his time at the Varsity, he interviewed media baron and convict Conrad Black, repelled down a building with a secret society of engineers, and wrote some of the paper’s most controversial editorials
Mathew was also a staff writer for Torontoist, Canada’s widest-read urban blog, and occasionally freelances for The Toronto Star. He’s even done some election coverage for The Huffington Post.
In his spare time, Mathew likes to cook, bake, and go camping – sometimes all at the same time! He makes a mean batch of berry scones and homemade jam. You should seriously try them. They’re awesome.
